Children are an important part of Mona Vale Anglican Church. In Mark 10:13-16 we see how Jesus welcomed little children and blessed them because he knows they are special to God, their heavenly Father. We want children who come along to Mona Vale Anglican to be blessed by Jesus through following him as his young disciples. We see our goal as a church to partner with the care-givers of these children so that we can work together to raise them as godly Christian people. Leaders who help with the children's programs are required to complete training in Safe Ministry as well as having a Working With Children Check, as part of our commitment to provide a safe environment for the learning and growth of the children God entrusts to our care.
10am Sunday Children's Church
On Sundays at our 10am congregation we have a range of different programs to cater for kids. During the initial part of the service we encourage all kids to sit in with their family. There is a children's talk which relates to the Bible series being taught for the term, and includes a children's song. All the kids will then head out for their various groups and activities. We run a crèche for infants aged under 3, and a program known as Children's Church for children in preschool to year 4 (during which there is a split into two age groups for Bible learning time).
Each Sunday in Children's Church we sing, play games, pray, memorise verses from the Bible and do craft, all of which link to the Bible passage that is read and discussed in their smaller groups. We finish with a light lunch of sandwiches and fruit, and sometimes cake if there is a birthday to celebrate!
Soul Patrol is a separate program for years 5-7 students, held during the 10am service on Sundays. Although they follow the same Bible series as Children's Church, these older children engage in a style of studying the Bible that helps them develop skills to understand it when reading it individually in their own time.
At this age, we encourage the members of Soul Patrol to start taking on some responsibilities by helping to serve others in the church community. The group is involved in things such as sometimes welcoming people as they arrive at the service and providing morning tea for the adults. For Children's Church they may help run a game or teach the memory verse, giving them experience in a leadership role. Upon finishing Soul Patrol, teenagers can choose to be a junior helper in one of the children's programs run at Mona Vale Anglican.
God's House is a kids' program for primary school children that meets mid-week on a Wednesday afternoon during school terms. Each term has a theme around which all our Bible learning and activities are based. All ages participate together in playing games, singing, memorising Bible verses, and doing craft. To read and discuss the Bible children separate into 3 smaller groups according to school year (Greenhouse for Kindy and year 1, Treehouse for years 2-3 and Lighthouse for years 4-5).
Registration is required and there are two attendance possibilities. The extended hours option includes school pick up (from Mona Vale PS only at this stage) with the 'walking bus' and afternoon tea is provided. Children are also welcome to attend for the kids' club program only which begins at 4pm. Pick up time is between 5:30 and 6 pm. For a registration form or more information email:
